Justin Trudeau Trolls Trump After Canada’s 4 Nations Championship Win

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a playful jab at the U.S. after Team Canada’s thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship on Thursday night.
“You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,” Trudeau declared in a blunt post on X (formerly Twitter), referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s past remarks about turning Canada into America’s “51st state.”
Trump’s Pep Talk (and Canada’s Clapback)
Earlier in the day, Trump called Team USA to fire them up before the big game. “You guys are really talented. I have great respect for hockey players, I’m a hockey fan. I love hockey,” he said in a clip posted to Truth Social.
But Team USA’s efforts weren’t enough to take down Canada, and Trudeau wasted no time rubbing it in.

Rivalry Reaches New Heights
The 4 Nations Face-Off, which replaced the NHL All-Star Game this year, brought together the best hockey players from Canada, the U.S., Finland, and Sweden. But the tournament wasn’t just about hockey—it became a battleground for political tensions.
- Canadian fans booed the American national anthem at a game in Montreal.
- American fans returned the favour, jeering “O Canada” in Boston.
- During the championship game, singer Chantal Kreviazuk made waves by altering the lyrics of “O Canada” to “That only us command” in response to the U.S.-Canada rivalry.
With the bragging rights secured, Canada has made it clear: hockey is our game, and we're not letting anyone take it away.
