Today is National Dog Day!

I'll take a dozen, please!

Krispy Kreme Has Doughnuts For Dogs!

Today is National Dog Day across North America, and to celebrate, Krispy Kreme is unleashing a special line of doughnuts, for DOGS.

Krispy Kreme’s “Doggie Doughnuts” include six doughnut-shaped biscuits, inspired by their doughnuts.  They’ll be available beginning on Friday, but only while supplies last.

Krispy Kreme is NOT making dog treats next to their normal doughnuts, they are being made by a company that makes baked pet treats called Huds and Toke.

They contain dog-friendly ingredients like Carob, a substitute for chocolate, however, Krispy Kreme says they “are not formulated to be served as a complete and balanced meal.”  (Unlike their regular, human doughnuts.)  (???)

Krispy Kreme will also have fun, limited-edition bandanas for dogs.  There’s just one size available, and they’re also a “while supplies last” thing.

National Dog Day History!

National Dog Day seeks to raise awareness about the dogs in need of rescue.

This day encourages appreciating dogs for all they do. This includes family dogs and working dogs such as service dogs, rescue dogs, and law enforcement dogs. Many families in the US own dogs however many are homeless and or have been abandoned. Every year, these dogs are taken into shelters where millions of them are euthanized. In the US, approximately 3.9 million dogs enter animal shelters every year, of these, 1.2 million are euthanized.

National Dog Day was established and promoted in 2005 by pet advocate Colleen Paige. It is observed annually on August 26th.
