The Most Affordable Countries to Own A Car…

Canada made top 3!

The USA is officially crowned the most affordable country to own a car in, according to new research.

The new study byScrap Car Comparison has analysed average new car costs, as well as additional costs of owning a vehicle including insurance, breakdown cover, fuel and even repairs, and cross-referenced this with the average yearly salary in every country to reveal the destinations where it’s cheapest (and most expensive!) to own a vehicle.

Turkey was identified as the most expensive country to own a car, followed by Colombia and Brazil!

Australia was revealed as the second most affordable country to own a vehicle in, with car ownership costs equivalent to 57% of the average salary. Canada follows closely in third place, with it costing 64% of the average annual salary required to purchase and run a car.

The Netherlands and Germany round off the top five, with car ownership costs reaching almost two-thirds (74%) of the average annual salary in both countries. Given Germany’s renowned and lucrative automotive industry, it’s interesting to see that the costs associated with owning a car align reasonably with the average income.

Surprisingly, despite its high cost of living reputation, the UK secures the eighth spot, with car ownership costing 87% of the annual average salary.
