The Oscars Are Trying To Be Less Boring!

The Academy will hand out 8 awards before the broadcast.

It’s the 94th telecast and to try and bring viewership back, the Oscars will not televise a few awards.

According to the Academy’s president, David Rubin, the awards for film editing, production design, sound, makeup and hairstyling, music (original score) and the three short film awards (documentary, live-action and animated) will be presented at the ceremony before the March 27 live broadcast begins on ABC.

These winners will be showcased throughout the 3-hour broadcast.

Last year’s ratings were at an all-time low of 9.85 million.  To put that into perspective, in 2018 the audience was about 29.6 million.

The Academy hopes that bringing back hosts after a few years without, will help bring people together to watch.

Related: Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes will each emcee for an hour.

While these changes may help bring people back to watch, the one thing that won’t change is the Best Picture Oscar- That will remain the last award of the night.
