Working From Home Helps The Environment (And Other Benefits)

There is still so much to do!

The COVID-19 pandemic forced many companies to adopt work-from-home policies, and it seems like this trend is here to stay. The benefits of working from home have been well-documented, from increased productivity to improved work-life balance. But remote work can also help the environment!

According to a global poll of over 2,000 people conducted in honor of Earth Day, 75% of respondents believe that working from home is one of the most effective ways to help the environment.

One of the primary reasons for this is the elimination of the daily commute. With an average commute of about 1 hour, over 75% of respondents said that they feel guilty about the environmental impact of their commute. By working from home, employees can significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

But the environmental benefits of working from home go beyond just reducing carbon emissions. Remote work can also lead to energy savings. With fewer people working in a centralized office, there’s less need for lighting, heating, and air conditioning. In addition, remote workers are more likely to use energy-efficient devices and appliances since they’re responsible for their own utility bills.

Other Benefits Of Working From Home

The poll also found that working from home has several personal benefits, which may contribute to increased job satisfaction and productivity. For example, 72% of respondents said that they save time by not having to commute, while 48% said that they save money. Additionally, 56% of respondents said that they spend more time with their family, 45% said that they feel happier, and 37% said that they are more productive.

Other benefits include the ability to enjoy a more flexible schedule (48%) and wearing whatever they want (56%).

But the best thing about working from home …

Being close to the kitchen (46%) and the ability to get weekend chores out of the way (44%) so you can actually enjoy the weekend!

It’s Not All Sunshine And Rainbows

Of course, working from home is not a perfect solution. Remote work can be isolating, and some people may struggle to separate work and personal life when they don’t have a physical office to leave at the end of the day.

However, the benefits of remote work are significant, and they extend beyond just personal convenience.

As companies continue to explore ways to reduce their environmental impact, working from home may be one of the easiest and most effective ways to make a difference.
