Barrie Company Fined After Worker Hurt On The Job

Was caught in machine while trying to clean it

Fabric manufacturer Albarrie, on Morrow Road in Barrie, has been fined $40,000 as a result of injuries suffered by a worker who was cleaning out a piece of equipment in June 2014. The Ministry of Labour says the worker noticed fibre accumulating on the materials being processed on the machine – normally a result of a vacuum head being clogged with fibre. To clear the vacuum head, the worker reached in under the table at the face of the machine. He was pulled into the machine, suffering injury and requiring surgery. In addition, ministry investigators say they found no guards or other devices to prevent access to the machine – a breach of government regulations.
