Barrie Police Home Safe Run Is Today

Supporting local groups and vulnerable persons' registry

Barrie Police are hosting their third annual Home Safe Run today on the lakeshore. The run is to raise awareness of the police Vulnerable Persons registry and to raise funds for Autism and Alzheimers programs in Simcoe County. Constable Sarah Bamford says the registry is a valuable tool when persons with Alzheimers, dementia or autism are reported missing or require assistance, “if this person goes missing and they have a tendency to wander towards water, we’re already one step ahead because we have their descriptors, we have the places they tend to visit…it makes that response in locating them much quicker.” Registration for the walk is $35. It begins at 4:30 at Heritage Park. The walk itself, to the South Shore Centre and back, begins at 6:30. Again, proceeds will benefit local groups.
