Barrie’s Jobless Rate May Be A Blip

Higher Than Expected Unemployment Rate In Town

Barrie’s mayor says this might be a bit of a statistical blip, calling Barrie’s jobless rate of 7.6 oddly high. Mayor Jeff Lehman says employment grew by 900 jobs, so lots of folks found work. But the labour force grew by about 21 hundred, meaning more people were looking for work, hence the bump of just under one percentage point. The provincial jobless rate of 6.8 didn’t budge from the month before, while the federal rate is down a titch to 7.1.
